WELL IT’S SUMMER AGAIN.
The time we forget about everything we’ve learnt this year about being healthy and diet go out the window. A time we think it’s an excuse to indulge in the extra bar of chocolate or that extra drink after that extra drink it’s nice to be young or to feel you again.
Unfortunately there can be some undesired side effects after having a few to many.
A lot of people who are reading will be sitting there smug thinking the ‘hear of the dog’ and it is scientifically proven does work. But it’s only delays gratification sooner or later you are going to have to give in and admit you lost. Either that or call AA.
When you do finally give into the fact that your not as young as you used to be. Here are a few tips
I can recommend which might help the recovery process. But no guarantees.
Dependant on how much you did drink last night some of these may be the last thing you feel like but they are just what the body needs to aid the recovery.
Water
First and foremost this is what your body needs to combat dehydration and rid you body of any free
radicals. It seems odd that the amount of liquid I drank last no how could I possibly be dehydrated. Well I’m sure you are aware that bladder activity increased dramatically last night, due to the poison in your desired drink you were more than likely excreting more than you drank. It’s also required to flush your body of any toxins. A glass of water should be consumed for very drink that you consumed the night before if you can’t remember just drink plenty they say you should be drink 2 litres a day any way but for today drink more. You body will also be crying out for a lack of salt so maybe a glass or 2 with a teaspoon of salt might help ease the pain.
B-vitamins
Take vitamin B before you go to bed and let them work their magic while you sleep. If you forget, take them as soon as you wake up. They an easily absorbed vitamin which help the carbohydrate metabolising process and will help restore your energy level they also help to enhance immune and nervous system function . A high potency B-complex supplement for this remedy complex should help you recover.
Bananas
Bananas are a excellent source of magnesium and your highest source of natural potassium which will become severely depleted by
your intake of ethanol. They are also very high in electrolytes excellent for breaking down and help your body get rid of the build up of toxins. Have a few bananas before you hit the sack and keep consuming the day after.
Honey
Honey is an excellent all round food it full of potassium and fructose which just like vitamin B helps your body metabolise and
counteracts the effects of the alcohol. Manuka honey has additional properties which help assist the immune system and also settle any stomach discomfort so may be more beneficial but any honey is better than nothing. Dependant on the quality of the honey you are taking a teaspoon per hour should help relieve any stomach discomfort and get you back into action.
Honey and Banana Milkshake
When these powers combine they may make an excellent brew to settle your stomach, build up your blood sugar levels, break down the alcohol in you system as well as replacing essential fluids vitamins and minerals, to get you back on track and ready for the house work.
Milk Thistle
Also known as silymarin which is the active compound from the plant. Milk thistle is a herb which is used to cleanse and greatly
improve the liver function, it helps protects liver cells from alcohol by helping to remove existing toxins. By taking a couple of capsules before meal, during drinking and even the morning after you will be helping the body deal with metabolism of the alcohol.
And if you are thinking of going on a detox for your new years resolution Milk Thistle would be an excellent choice to get that liver up and running again.
Tomato Juice
Tomato juice is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals full of antioxidants to protect the body from
the toxins and also contains fructose to again help metabolise the alcohol more quickly.
And if you just can’t handle the pain would be the best option for hair of the dog in a Bloody Mary take it easy on the vodka though as your time will come.
These are some of the options which are available freely from you local supermarket or health shop. If you do decide to head straight for the aspirin or pain killers try ‘fever few’ a natural herb which helps relieve headaches/pain and is just as effective as aspirin though can also be used to settle digestive complaints which aspirin is not recommended, as it is very hard on the stomach.
Basically what your body is telling you when you are hung over apart from the point that you drank too much last night, is the fact you are dehydrated, lacking vitamins and minerals salts and sugars and your body needs to rid it’s self of toxins. So basically if you can thing you can counteract any of these ailments you may recognise some form of relief. There are many electrolyte drinks and mineral drinks available which are full of just what you body needs though a lot of these are carbonated which may not be the best thing for an upset stomach.
There are always the good hot drinks old coffee and tea to pick me up with a good caffeine boost if you are into you hot drinks there will be no holding you back anyway. Beware though that caffeine acts as a diuretic which the same as alcohol will assist your bladder in releasing fluid so it is not going to assist you in retaining you fluids.
I hope these tips help anyway I have found a lot of them do work a treat from time to time dependant on the amount consumed the night before. But if you really don’t want to take the risk of spending a day feeling sorry for yourself drink sensibly and have a few glasses of water either during your session or just before you go to bed along with some vitamin B.
